Iphigenia in Aulis drew on the aesthetics of 1970s Cyprus, using abstraction to evoke both place and tension. Set on a shoreline as the Greeks await passage to Troy, the design balanced vibrant color with an underlying sense of impending sacrifice.
As Associate Scenic Designer, I collaborated with the lead designer and director to develop the visual environment, contributing to the translation of the concept into a cohesive stage picture. I was responsible for the design and execution of the floor and select ground-level scenic elements, including a textured floor treatment that evoked sand. I designed and developed key elements such as a raised platform for the chorus and a composition of crates, selecting paint treatments and scenic details to ensure visual cohesion.
In addition, I selected and approved a majority of the props, maintaining consistency with the production’s aesthetic and historical references. Through drafting, material selection, and coordination with the production team, I helped create a unified environment that supported both the visual composition and the movement of the chorus within the space.
